I have found a record for Bridget Dolan, born on the 19th June 1887, father Joseph, mother Maryann daly. Could this be your grandmother?

My maternal Grandmother Mary Bridget Meara Nee Dolan is sitting in the centre of the Photo wearing a red dress. Her husband William Meara is to the rear, their three children, Mary Margaret (my Mother) Eillen and Ann are all shown, their son Joseph is not shown. Mary was, we believe, born in approx 1888 in Banagher Kings County (From her 1911 Manchester Census record). We can however find no record of her actual birth. Other than a possible 1901 Irish Census record showing her aged 13 and named Bridget. We are not 100% sure if this is our Grandmother.
We know that her marriage record records her father as Joseph and her age as 24 years, her father Joseph is not recorded as deceased? She was at this time living on Oxford Rd Chorlton Medlock, Manchester.

Good afternoon YD, great to hear from you especially with promising news/details. I have obviuosly continued searching for records and did locate a possible marriage record for a Joseph Dolan and a May A Daly in Portunna in abt Dec 1880, i was never able to confirm if this was correct and therefore if the Bridget i was trying to trace was correct. It may well be that you have found the record that confirms my initial thoughts, Is Portunna associated with Banagher at all?
Was it usual for children to adopt a parents name if not baptised/named, in this case Mary seems to have been added at some point and was certainly used throughout her married life in England.
Can you advise if the record is availble for viewing or if a copy can be sourced.
Many thanks, Angela Armstrong nee Fitzgerald

Hi Angela, I have been looking at records for you and because there were a lot of dolans in Banagher, and more than one Joseph it may be difficult to say for def. But looking at the marriage record and comparing it to the census records to me it looks like her mother was Mary Ann daly. They were married in eyrecourt Co Galway and that is only a few miles from Banagher also in the census Mary a says she was born in Galway. Id love to prove that his dad Martin is my 2x g grandfather who was married to Ann Kelly.regards yvonne

Good evening Miriam and Yvonne, thank you both for your help with tracing our family lines, they have proved extremely stubbon to confirm over the years, It would be fantastic if you could provide a copy of the documents that you have, i have shown my email address below.

Thanks for the info regarding place name locations it is always diffiucult to equate distances especially at a distance and not being able to visit to gain an understanding of geography. I will now be able to search with increasing confidence that i am looking in the right areas.
I think you may well be correct regarding irrefutable proof that this is our Joseph, but given all the circumstantial links i think i feel rather confident that we have the correct Dolan line. Interestingly i have previously made a note listing a possible father for Joseph as being Martin, unfortunately i have misplaced my reasoning for this (we have moved home and some records still need rescuing from the packed boxes) but hopefully it will be possible to track down Martin and prove that he could well be our matching 2xGrandparent..
I look forward to any documents that you are able to share and i will send you copies of those that i have by return email.
Many thanks Angela & Gareth
