Lydia Lockard (sometimes spelled "Lockhard" or Lockhart") was born in County Tyrone 10 June 1835 to parents John Lockard and Ellen/Helen Ball. She had at least two siblings: Hannah (b. ca. 1828) and John (b. ca. 1836). She arrived in Canada from Ireland ca. 1845, eventally settling in Innisfil, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada.
On the 8th December 1859 she married Joseph Lockhart (b. 1837, d. 1909), who was also born in County Tyrone to parents William Lockhart and Mae Dillon. Together they had nine children: William (b. 1859), Ann Jane (b. 1861), John (b. 1863), Matilda (b. 1866), Joseph (b. 1868), Hannah Magdalen (b. 1870), Martha (b. 1873), Robert (b. 1875), and Charlotte (b. 1879).
Lydia died at the age of 75 years on 29th July 1909 in Severn Bridge, eight months after suffering a stroke.
