I'm certain this is my great-great grandfather. Married Bridget Angley at St John's, Limerick in Limerick (August 8th 1856).
My research indicates he was baptised at St John's Limerick on 5 December 1833. His father was Michael Keane and his mother Margaret Shine.
A Michael Shine is a witness at his marriage in 1856, along with a Norah Meehan. I have a likely death for Charles based on the information acquired here of 1882 in Liverpool.
His wife was Bridget (Maiden Angley).: I have a likely baptism record for her in 1839 at Galbally and Aherlow Diocese Cashel and Emly. Her mother was Mary Mullins and father Michael Angley. I know nothing else about her family at this time, or what happened to her following the death of Charles.
My great grandfather (John Cain) acquired their marriage certificate on a trip to Ireland from Manchester in 1909 - I have no idea why he was in Ireland, or why he would want this document.
I have Charles and Bridget on the 1881 Census living in Liverpool and Charles working as a boot maker. A tool he used for boot making remains in my family in England.
John Cain worked as a labourer on the new steeple of St Francis of Assisi (Gorton Monastery, Manchester) in 1911/12. He was married to Ellen Cain in 1900 at St Franscis of Assisi. They are both buried in Gorton, Manchester. The couple had 7 children (one of whom was my grandmother, Magdalene). Most of the children were baptised at St Franscis of Assisi, Gorton Mc/r.
I have John and Ellen living in Gorton Manchester on several census records. I am unable to acquire a birth or baptism record for John Cain at this time.
On the census record of 1911 he recorded Roscommon as his birthplace, previously simply 'Ireland'. He used a mark to sign.
He died in 1926 aged c 71 so c 1855.
If anyone can assist me locate a birth or baptism record for John I'd be really grateful. Similarly, anything about Charles and Bridget in either Limerick or Liverpool would be great.
My best guess is that Charles and Bridget left Ireland with John (their eldest) for Liverpool. The rest of their children appear to have been born in Liverpool.
Many thanks
Craig
