My g-grandfather William John Washington Greene was a soldier in the 2nd Leinster Regiment at the Crinkill Barracks when he married my g-grandmother in Birr in 1884.

I just found this information on their marriage certificate and would like to learn more about Crinkill and Irish army records.  I have looked for records, but the records I have found deal mostly with the 1916-1924 time frame.  I must be missing something.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks so much!

  • Hi Anne,
I'm new to the message board, but I noticed your message regarding Birr and the Crinkill Barracks.
Stephen Callagham, has researched and written a book all about the Birr Military Cemetery, in which I found a headstone dedicated to my Great great Aunt who is buried there.
The book contains more information on a Joseph Washington Greene born 18th July 1885, son of William Washington Greene.
If you have this information please accept my apologies.

    Regards
