Found my grandfathers Birth or christening 21 Sept 1839 Michael Maher...Parents John Maher and Anne Gibbs who were married in Athy 7 Aug 1822
The names I found or could read in the registers were.. James Maher 1832...Ellen Maher 1835...Thomas Maher 1836...Michael Maher 1839-1921 Geelong Australia and Joseph 1841...sorry I don't know much more.
I do know he didn't come out as a convict my gran really stressed that bit, upset at the thought.
I think it was more the famine he was escaping at the tail end of it he arrived in Australia Nov 1867 on board the Donald MacKay
He worked as a wardsmen at the Sale hospital then Geelong
