Buncrana Castle is located in the civil parish of Fahan Lower in County Donegal.
The Castle was built in 1718, and is not really a castle in the true sense at all. It is more correct to descibe Buncrana Castle as a country house, as it does not have the defensive features necessary to classify is as a true castle.
The building consists of two storeys over a raised basement. It is designed in the Classical style and represents a transitional period in the architecture of the area from defensive to decorational.
It has seen a number of renovations and modernisations over the years but has still managed to retain much of its original charm and featuers.
Buncrana Castle has been maintained to an excellent standard and is still in use today.
