Frederick Maurice Watson Harvey was born in Athboy, County Meath, on the 1st of September 1888.
As a young man, Harvey distinguished himself as a gifted rugby player, representing Ireland at international games.
On 1914 he married Winifred Lilian Patterson, with whom he had a son, Denis Frederick.
In 1908 Harvey relocated to Canada where he found workas a surveyor in Northern Alberta before enlisting in the Canadian Army in 1916.
On the 27th of March 1917, Harvey was stationed in Guyencourt in France where his regiment was involved in an attack on the village. When his regiment was attacked with heavy fire from a machine gun at close range, Harvey surged forwards and ran to the machine gun operator, jumping the wire and cutting him down thus ceasing his relentless fire. He captured the gun which turned around the events of the day. harvey was awarded the prestigious Victoria Cross for his bravery on that day.
Harvey retired from military service in 1945. He died on the 24th of August 1980 at the age of 91.
