On the 12th fo April 1847, the USS Jamestown landed in Cork Harbour.
The American ship was carrying 800 tonnes of much needed supplies for famine relief.
1847 was the worst year of the Great Hunger and is often referred to as "Black '47".
The ship had departed from Massachusetts 2 weeks earlier for its voyage across the Atlantic.
The supplies were valued at approximately £40,000, and were gathered following an appeal for aid in a Cork newspaper.
