Michael Tollet of Tallagh : Short Biography

Michael Tollet of Tallagh BELMULLET was married to Anne 'Nancy' Padden aka Áine Nic Páidín.  

At the time of Griffiths Valuation of Tallagh in 1856, no Tollet (aka Tollett) was recorded as having land in this townland. It would appear Michael and his brother William married into Padden and Caulfied farmland here respectively.

The only Tollet in the entire barony of Erris recorded at this time was Anne Tollet at #1l in the townland of Clooneen (just north of Tallagh).

In 1863 they invited Michael & Brigid Bourke to godparent, and in 1870, Mary Tollett also sponsored the baptism of their son John.

POSSIBLE RELATIONS

• In 1865, John Tollet & Babara Conway (from the adjoining townland of Shanahee aka Shanaghy BELMULLET) invited Owen & Margaret Lavelle to godparent. No Tollet was recorded in the townland of Shanaghy in the 1901 Census.

• In 1867, Anthony Tollet & Biddy O'Gara of Tallagh BELMULLET invited Anthony Malley & Mary Cormack to godparent. No Tollet was recorded in the townland of Tallagh in the 1901 Census. 

• On 20-Dec-1897 William Tollet (b. 1864) farmer & Mary Neary of Belmullet baptised Mary Jr. and a son, Francis Tollet in 1899. This couple are recorded as William & Mary Tallott in the 1901 Census, without baby Frank. 

• In 1901 Mary Tallot (b. 1830) and family are recorded in the townland of Atticonaun, Belmullet.

• In the adjoining townland of Toorglass, farmer John Barrett & Sarah 'Sally' Tollet (b. 1840) m.1864 are recorded in the 1901 Census. In 1895, Sarah's sister Catherine 'Kate' Tollet (b. 1840) a farmer's daughter (spinster) died at Sarah's home in Toorglass.
