The State Jewels of Ireland, sometimes referred to as the Crown Jewels were associated with the Order of St Patrick This was an elite aristocratic order which dated back to 1783. The modern day value of the jewels is estimated at about $20 million.
On the 6th of July 1907, the jewels went missing from Dublin Castle where they were guarded by the Ulster King of Arms and his staff.
A full investigation was held, but the jewels were never recovered, nor anyone brought to justice for the theft.
