Hello, I know that my 2xgreat grandfather William Hickey was baptised in Arles Parish in 1834, son of Patrick Hickey and Alice Keating. They appear to have lived in Ballylinan. William came to Australia in 1862 and died relatively young in 1880. I am interested in any further information on his parents Patrick & Alice and any siblings, especially if there are descendants still living in the area. Also interested if there are records which could indicate more details about Patrick and Alice's parents and siblings. I realise that this parish is close to the county border with Kildare and different birth places have been mentioned in records here in Australia which has caused some confusion. Maybe the family moved around and didn't always live in Ballylinan during William's childhood. Thank you for your time, Michael

Michael:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The subscription site Roots Ireland has seven baptismal records where the parents were Patt Hickey and Ally/Elitia Keating. Michael 1828 James 1830 Patt 1832 William 1834 John 1836 Jukia 1838 Catherine 1841
NOTE the 1832 record had the mother as Elitia
I did not locate the marriage record.
The 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killabban civil parish showed an Alice Hickey in Oldcourt which is an alternate name for Ballylynan https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/laois/killabban.htm Likely Patt Hickey had died pre-1853.

Thank you very much for your help Roger.
I have now noticed that there are a number of Keatinge (sic) families in Oldcourt too, I wonder how they were related to Alice? Something for me to pursue.
I imagine burial records don't exist for that period so we may never know what happened to Patt.
All the best,
Michael

I checked and Arles parish does not have any burial records on Roots Ireland.

Thank you once more Roger. I just checked NLI Parish registers which do have some burial records for Arles parish but the images are very poor. I will persevere through those images to see if there are any likely matches.
