Brian Boru (941 – 1014) aka Brian Bóramha (aka Brian Bóruma mac Cennétig aka Brian Bóruma aka Brian Boriomhe) also known as the "Imperator Scottorum" or "Emperor of the Gaels", he is widely regarded as one of the most successful and unifying monarchs in medieval Ireland. He brought an end to the Uí Néill domination of the High Kingship of Ireland and, having first made himself King of Munster, went on to become High King of Ireland. He was slain at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014.

  • Brian's first marriage was to Mór, daughter of the King of Uí Fiachrach Aidne of Connacht.

  • He had at least 4 known wives

  • His most famous marriage to Gormlaith followed Brian's war against Máel Mórda (her sibling) and Sitric (her son).

Brian Boru is the founder of the O'Brien dynasty in Ireland. His paternal family were descended from the Ui Tairdelbach branch of the Dal gCais (or Deis Tuisceart).
