Patrick Murray was born on a farm in the Townland of Tullynacross just outside of Poyntzpass, Armagh on November, 1823. His parents were Patrick and Sarah Murray. Patrick sr. was born in 1780 and Sarah was born in 1785. The farm was seven acres and was rented from the estate of a Mr. Close who was the major landholder in the area. Patrick grew up with his family on the farm but in 1837 when he was 14 his father died. He and his mother ran the farm for the next 11 years they immigrated to America. I assume they left as a result of the potato famine. When they came to America they settled in the village of Verplanck's Point in Westchester, New York. Sarah died in Verplanck on May 15th 1865.
Patrick worked as a bricklayer after coming to America and on Dec. 2nd, 1871 he married Sarah Graham(or Grimes). Sarah had come to America in the late 1860's from the town of Donaheady near Strabane, County Tyrone. She was born in 1842 to William Graham and Mary Shiels.
They had 4 children, Sarah, Patrick, Robert and David. Robert and David died very young. Sarah married John Keon and Patrick married Elizabeth Scheer. Patrick and Elizabeth had seven children, James, Lillian, Joseph, Catherine, Elizabeth, John and a baby who died at birth.
Patrick died on Aug. 16th, 1893 and Sarah died on January 19th, 1916 both in Verplanck.
