Ellen Brennan was born around March 1820 in Castlecomes County, Kilkinny Ireland. In 1838 she married William Walker at the Muckalee Catholic Church. They had 5 children, William Jr. about 1839 -1839, Mary Walker 1840-1928, Ann Walker 1842-1908, Margaret 1846-1846, Ellen Walker 1850-1926 - my great grandmother.
Family lore is that they lived in a little stone house, and when Ellen's husband William died in 1850 of cancer of the lip from smoking a pipe she considered emigrating to America but had to wait until her infant daughter was 3 years old.
So around 1853-1854 she set sail for the USA with 3 daughters in tow. She settled in around Hazleton, Luzerne County Pennsylvania. There she married a man by the name of James Brennan from Ireland, widowed with two sons- William and James Jr. They had one daughter Catherian 1856 -who died about the age of 10.
By 1880 she is living with her adult daughter Mary and her husband Martin Corrigan and their children and is simply listed as "Granny" in the relationship column.
By 1900 census she is living with her other adult daughter Ann, now widowed from Eugen McHugh and their daughter Ellen age 24.
Death comes in 1902 at the age of 82 on Oak Street, Hazleton, Pennsylvania.
