Owen Dorathy, age 13, left County Cork, Ireland to try his luck in America. It took him six weeks on a sailing ship to reach the United States. He first settled in Cattaraugus County, New York. There is a town by that name in that county, but it is not known if this is where he settled. His mother and brother Ben eventually came to America and then emigrated to Canada.
