He emigrated to America with his mother, brother James and sister Ellen. They settled in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. He is listed in the 1880 census with wife Mary Hagerty and daughter Alice. They had 3 sons soon. John Thomas, Edward Jeremiah, and James William. JT moved westward to Washington State. Brothers Ed and Jim followed the railway to Miles City, Montana. Alice remained in Wisconsin, marrying Jacob Gessner and raising her family there.
