Michael Robert Gorey : Short Biography

Michael was born on 11 July 1833 in Thomastown to Daniel and Bridget nee Gooley Gorey. In 1855 he travelled alone to South Australia where he married Ellen Eliza Coles and they had 12 children. The youngest Albert Ernest Gorey was my grandfather but unfortunately I never met him as he died the year before I was born. 
Michael and Ellen lived at Balaklava where Michael was a farmer, He had a property on what is now known as Gorey's corner as that's where the other farmers used to bring their sheep to send them to market. Gorey's corner is the jucttion of 7 roads. There is still an old stone building on the property which would have been either his house or his barn.
