David McCully was my 4th great-grandfather. His tombstone inscription from "Gravestone Insciprtion: volume 11: Co. Down" compiled by R.S.J. Clarke (1974) gives the most information about him: Movilla graveyard - erected by Hugh McUlly in memory of his father David McCulley who died 19 May 1840 aged 60 - also 4 of his children who died in their infancy (more likely to be David's children) - also above Hugh McCulley died 14 Sep 1841 aged 30 - also Jane McCully, wife of above David, died 18 April 1876 aged 92. A Census search by his grand-daughter Eleanor Jane Wallace in 1917 gave the information that David and Jane were listed in the 1851 census of Ballyblack (though David had already died). David's known children are Hugh (from the tombstone), Mary Jane (from the census search), Margaret who married James McCully (mentioned in the will of David's brother-in-law Hugh Kennedy as his nephew) and Elizabeth who married William Robert McIlwaine in 1849 at the age of 20, a seamstress from Ballyblack, her father David McCulley, a farmer (though he was deceased this was not always reflected on the marriage records).
