Piaras Mac Gearailt was born in 1709 at Ballykenneally Ballymacoda Co Cork and died In 1791.
He is buried in the Fitzgerald family plot in The Hill Cemetery, Ballymacoda.
He was famous for his poems – his best-known poem is the rousing “Rosc Catha na Mumhan” which was written around 1750. Another one of his well-known poem was “Seán O’Di”.
