Hi all, i'm not real well versed with using this service but here goes, i'm making a trip to derry, ireland (and other locations) in 2021, mainly to trace our ancestors in that area.
I know the info I have is about times long gone, but here goes: Peter Flanagan is my gr-gr-gr-gr ? grandfather, born 10-1-1759, 200 yrs before I was born : )
Peter was born in County Derry, Londonderry/Derry. I have a copy of a 6-11-1856 naturalization petition of the U.S. district court 1820-1930, and Circuit Court 1820-1911 for the Western
District of Pennsylvania for a Peter Flanagan (his signature is FlanAgan, not FlanIgan), Listed sources for that dob and place is the 1850 census, 1860 census and Find A Grave.
Peter and Bridget Flanagan were first settlers of Cambria County, Loretto, Pennsylvania. Bridget died after the birth of their 2nd child, Michael born in 1793.
Peter then remarried, Anna (Nancy) Reinzel also born in County Derry in 1773 She died 8 May 1854. Peter and Anna were buried at St. Michael's Cemetery in Loretto, Carroll Township, Cambria County, Pa. Peter died at 96 years of age and his obit was in the Alleghanian and the Democrat & Sentinel newspapers, he died on 3/21/1861 in the Alleghanian paper, but 3-20-1861 in the Democrat
& Sentinel newspaper. This could be decided for sure as the articles say he died on Friday, a calendar review for March 1861 would clarify...but those calendars show march 20 is wed and 21 is thur...neither is a friday...? How do I research Peter's birth/baptism/marriage records in Ireland? He was a Roman Catholic. How do I find the parish/es he may have lived in as
he lived in County Derry, Ireland. Was the Church of Ireland Catholic? or Anglican? or are the the same? Is it possible there are pictures of Peter? Would have to be sketch/painting, etc
right?...as the camera wasn't invented until 1816...but Peter would've been 57 years old and would've been in Pa....if I'm to assume he came to U.S. around the time of the naturalization
certificate I have, dated. 6-11-1856 when he was ...no that couldn't be, maybe it's Peter JR? I can't see Peter Sr changing citizenship at 90some years old...ANY HELP is WELCOMED : )
