I wouldn't go by any information on Ancestry that isn't backed up with proof. I have lots of people claiming my ancestors on Ancestry - and when I get in touch with them and say this couldn't posssibly be your ancestor and give them the reasons why, here is what I get: some claim that person isn't on their family tree, others have died and the information can't be changed, others have left Ancestry and can no longer be contacted and on and on it goes. I wish Ancestry would implement a system like they have on FamilySearch.org - on that website, if you find someone who doesn't belong to your family, you can 'disconnect' them. You have to give the reasons and backup your statements with records but it works so much better than Ancestry. Years ago when I started my family tree, I was looking for Patrick Doyle born ~1801 in Kilkenny, Ireland - when I looked into the records I found there were many, many Patrick Doyles born around that time!!! After doing research for over 40+ years I finally found his baptism entry - I had verified who he was from other members of his family but the records of where he lived only began in 1809. He was baptised in the adjacent parish and those records weren't digitized by the National Library of Ireland for some reason.
James Walsh was born in Kilkenny in approx 1822, he died in Sydney, NSW, Australia on 6th March 1857. The informant on his death certificate was his brother Nicholas Walsh. Nicholas listed their parents as James Walsh and Eleanor Hennessy from Kilkenny Ireland. James jnr, James snr and Nicholas were all listed as carpenters. I have been unable to find any baptism record for a James Walsh born to a James Walsh and Eleanor Hennessy, there is however a record for a Nicholas born in Gowran, Kilkenny in 1814 with a twin brother John. There are several trees on Ancestry with this family listed (minus my James) however they have Nicholas immigrating to the USA and living with his family and dying in Louisiana, USA. I have records showing that James' brother Nicholas was living in Sydney in 1855-1857 and possibly 1861-1863. I have been unable to find any other records relating to James brother Nicholas in Sydney.
James married Bridget Heffernan in Gowran, Kilkenny on May 7th, 1847. Their marriage was witnessed by: Simon Laugton and Cath Hickey; (Microfilm 05027 / 01 Catholic Parish Registers at NLI). In Sept 1847, a James Walsh and Bridget Heffernan were witnesses to the marriage of a Thomas Murphy and Catherine Walsh in Gowran. In 1847 James and Bridget had a son James and records show that in 1848 the family of three from Gowran immigrated to Sydney, NSW aboard the Hyderabad. The passenger lists also shows there was also a Thomas and Catherine Murphy from Gowran onboard (is there a connection?). James and Bridget had three more children in Sydney: Mathew b 1849, Maria b 1850 and Catherine b 1855. Son James died as an infant as he is listed as deceased on his father's death certificate in 1857.
I have been unable to find any other records for James in Sydney apart from his address 256 Liverpool St (possible address, as brother Nicholas is listed as living at 258 Liverpool St - City of Sydney archives - Assessment Notices) listed in 1855/56. Nicholas is listed also as living at 258 Liverpool St on James' death certificate.
