Ruin of the old Kilmoon church. The cemetery was on my to do list while looking for ancestors of Irish decent. The Cemetery is still used today which was lovely to see.

The White head stone in the centre of the photo of the Kilmoon Cemetery has an Inscription on it which says-

"Erected by Pat Harkin in memory of his father and mother

also of his departed frineds for him and properity.

May he rest in Peace".

If it is the same Pat Harkin from Ballytigue townland, he died on 17 June 1921 at age 85 years, having lived at Ballytigue with his wife Mary Harkin who died on 8 March 1942. On his death memorial card, he was named as Patrick Harkins, with an "s" on the end. The house they lived in with their family was claimed back from the Dillon family -who had taken it over in the 1860s when Patrick came of age.

My g.g grandmother was born Bridget Fox in about 1813, and married Michael Harkin, born about 1813 also. Michael and Bridget had 8 Harkin children -2 twin girls dying in child-birth. Michael died about 1840 and Bridget married John Dillon and had 3 Dillon boys. John Dillon who took over farming the land. The 2 eldest Harkin children - Michael (my great granfather) and Mary came to Geelong, Victoria, Australia in July 1851. John Dillon continued farming the land until John and Bridget with the remaining 4 Harkin children and 3 Dillon boys left Ballytigue and arrived in Melbourne on 22 January 1854.

On departure to Australia in Nvember 1853, another Dillon - likely Philip - took over the land until Patrick Harkin reclaimed it the early 1860s, he was about 23-24 years old.

While the headstone that Patrick erected is in honour of his parents, I don't know who his parents are but have been unsuccessful in finding out who they were. As he took over the original MIchael Harkin land in Ballytigue, he must be related to my family. Mary Kyne at Ballyvaughan is a descendant of Patrick and Mary Harkin.

The O'Dwyer family from Kilshanny are also descndants of Patrick as well.
