Owen Connell was baptized at a Clonallon church on 7 April 1838. His parents were Bernard and Eleanor Grant Connell. Owen had one sister Rose b. 1828, 3 brothers Michael b. 1830, Hugh b. 1832, James b. 1835. In 1842 Owen's father Bernard died and is buried at Traymount. Eleanor/Ellen then married Eipdward McEvoy and gave birth to another son Edward about 1850. In May of 1854 Eleanor emmigrated to America. The ship's manifest states she is 50 years old and traveling with Edward age 6. New York census records state she is a widow living with son Michael, Edward and James in Rochester, N.Y.
Owen so far doesn't appear in the 1855 N.Y. census but does show up in Dodge County, Wi. on 13 Jan.1868 where he married Mary Josephine Burns. The photo of Owen was taken on his wedding day to Mary. He was thirty years old at the time of his marriage. Owen and Mary moved to Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin after their marriage. There Mary gave birth to two daughters, Rose and Mary Ellen. In 1870 the family moved to Osage, Mitchell County, Iowa and farmed for 20 years. During this time another 10 children were born. All of these children survived to adulthood except one daughter. The brothers Michail and James also lived in Mitchell County, Iowa.
In 1890 Owen accepted a position of mail carrier with the U.S. Postal service in Superior, Wisconsin. His job consisted of getting the mail off of the trains and taking it by horse and buggy to the Post Office. Mary ran a boarding house near the train depot. In 1892 one more child was born and the family was complete at 12 children. In 1909 Owen became ill with blood poisoning of the left finger ( unsure of which hand or finger) and after a few weeks of suffering died at the age of 67.
