This is my great grandfather John Loughery''s cousin Patrick Loughery (nephew of great great grandfather Cornelius Loughery). He was born around 1853 in we think Gortnamearacaun, County Clare. However both his parents died when he was very young. He was raised then by Mickey Loughery who lived close to the Catholic Church in Ballinruan. We're not sure if Mickey was grandfather, grand uncle, or what. We think that Patrick's parents were Michael Loughery and Mary Hanrahan. My father's mother in Chicago had this same picture of Patrick as some Irish relatives. Patrick married Margaret Tierney in 1876 who then had at least 12 children. He died at Ballinruan in 1941.

Hello Maurice, and thanks for the note. I know something about "my" Cornelius Loughery, but not nearly as much as I would like to know. My gg grandfather Cornelius was born around 1824 in Ballinruan, County Clare. He married Sarah Keogh probably after 1855 with their children born starting in around 1857 or so. At some point, the family moved to Boscobel House which is closer to Knockreddan, and Cornelius died there in 1869. His widow Sarah and the rest of the immediate family later emigrated to the US.
There are at least 2 Loughery/Loughrey families that lived in the same vicinity -- some were in Ballinruan, and some were in the neighboring Calluragh townland. They are all related but one of my goals has been to try to figure out the exact connection. I have a "possible" tree on Ancestry, My Heritage, and GEDmatch if you're on any of those sites.
I am also aware of the Con Loughrey who went ot Australia around 1853 or so, and I simply don't know if that's "my" Cornelius, or an older Cornelius from Calluragh. I think you, or maybe someone from your family, may have corresponded with my father Jim quite a few years back now.
But I am certainly intrigued and here is a little bit more that I can tell you On their death records, my Cornelius was referred to a Corney, but certainly the timing of when he went to Australia and then came back fits with when he got married and started a family. However, the Cornelius from Calluragh was older (born in the mid to late 1780's), and on his death record and gravestone he is referred to as Connor. Also, his daughter Mary Loughrey did wind up going to Australia. She married an August Reiss in 1860 in Ballarat, Victoria. They had one son, but August died the same year (1861). Mary then remarried John Vaughan in 1862. After having their first child together in Ballarat, their subsequent children were born near Cape Fear, Victoria. So that Cornelius being referred to as Connor and one of his daughters settling in Australia would tend to make me think that this is the one who went to Australia. I also have a genealogist contact in County Clare (Jane Halloran Ryan) who thought that it was Connor, but she was going to look into it a bit more.
At any rate, they certainly were closely related. I think that my Cornelius's father may have been a brother to Connor. And in the Doon Cemetery in Clare, their gravestones are very close together, as are at least 3 Hanrahan gravestones.
But that's what I think I know. I doubt that any of that is new information to you, but if not, then maybe it helped some. And if you have any more information, I would definitely like to know more.
