Abigail Shay immigrated to America in 1845. According to her family history, she was born in Bartlemy Parish in County Cork. She worked for and lived with Debby Quincy when she arrived from Ireland in Lee, MA. She gave Quincy as a middle name to her first son, Michael Quincy Fitzgerald. She probably met her husband, Michael Fitzgerald, in Lenox, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, where he was living at the time of their marriage.They were married in 1853 in Pittsfield, MA, at St. Joseph's Church. By 1855, they were living in Wisconsin - first at Forest, WI and then at Taycheedah, WI. Both of these locations are in Fond du Lac County, WI.
