James Carrigan was born in Carbury, Kildare, Ireland to parents, Henry Carrigan and Elizabeth Williams Carrigan. The Carrigan family had four children in eight years while they lived in Carbury. Francis, daughter, born 15 Sep 1808, James, born 6 Oct 1811, Elizabeth, born 11 May 1813, and Mary, born 20 May 1816. All four were christened in the church in Carbury. All four christenings have been verified in Church of Ireland parish records at the RCB library. There is no marriage record for Henry and Elizabeth in Carbury, though parish records began there in 1805. There are no burial records in Carbury parish for any in the Henry Carrigan family. It appears that the family came from somewhere else, lived in Carbury for a time, then moved elsewhere. James left Ireland and went to England where he was married in 1844 to an English woman, Ann Scothan. They were married in Sheffield, Yorkshire, and emigrated to the U.S. shortly thereafter. Much is known about James and his family from this point on. I would like to discover more about James Carrigan's family in Ireland. On James's marriage record, his father's occupation was recorded as farmer. Where did the family live before Carbury? Why were they in Carbury? Where did they go after Carbury? When did James leave Ireland for England? Where and when were Henry Carrigan and Elizabeth Williams married? These are the questions I am seeking to answer. It will be a long project to find the answers. I would appreciate any help, suggestions, or insights.
