Mary Anne was the first and eldest daughter of Thomas Kelly and Elizabeth Beirne of Carrigeenagappul /Corrigeen Roscommon.  Her father was a farmer.  Her grandparents were James Kelly + Anne Lanaghan also of Carrigeenagappul and Luke Beirne + Winifred McManus.

She was born on February 21, 1871, and her birth was registered in Strokestown. She was baptized:

Mary Anne according to family lore was the first of her family to immigrate to the USA / NY.  According to her death certificate, she immigrated to New York via Castle Island in 1894. On August 25, 1897, she was admitted to Manhattan State Hospital on Wards Island for tuberculosis and where she remained a patient for 13 long horrid years. Prior to her hospitalization, she worked as a domestic at 865 Second Avenue, New York, NY.  She died of Chronic Pulmonary Tuberculosis at Manhattan State Hospital the site of a hospital for sick and destitute immigrants and psychiatric patients.  Her gravesite is unknown but assumed to be unmarked on Wards Island.
