Tallent family name research

Mike, I have been asked to look at unanswered queries. This is an interesting one, firstly the name is unusual, there appear to be RC records for the area now Portlaoise so I assume they were Church of Ireland and the records were destroyed in the civil war, there is a site to check on. 

I imagine all the Tallents were related, oddly I found a Tallent as a prison warder in Kiladerry, Offaly, a remote spot for a prison warder but there is a large old prison in Portlaoise (Maryborough) still in use. It said he was a Crimean War Subscribers 1855. 

The Tallent / Herbert marriage I could not find but there is a possibility of two marriages as there is a child born in 1856 to a Judy Herbert but the next child is born in 1864 to a Susan Herbert and I think 4 in all. Some in Portlaois and some in Emo parish, townland Shaen, Judy may have died and he married here sister, not that unusual I think.

According to McLysaghts Surnames of Ireland the name Tallent is found in Carlow (beside Laois) and Dublin from the 16th century. So much for the prison warder, he subscribed 1 shilling and 11 pence, about 10 pence UK now. It would be interesting to look at Griffiths Valuation to see where Tallents were and Herberts when it was done. It is free to use on the Ask About Ireland site but it is down just now, not terribly unusual unfortunately.

I have taken a DNA test with Ancestry and although it has given me some matches to research none as yet have taken me to County Laois. One match has taken me to Dublin and I have been able to go back to 1819 in Dublin. I do not know what the link is to my great great grandfather yet, further research will hopefully answer that question, I will continue to investigate. I have looked at the Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI, unfortunately for County Laois they only go back to approx 1820.

I am hopeful that one day I may be able to find some of the answers I am looking for.

My 3rd great grandfather is Michael Tallant who married Mary Moran in Maryborough on Jan 13, 1831. They were living in Shaen at the time. This may mean that we are related. I also have my DNA at ancestry and many other places. My great great grandmother Julia (Judith) Tallant was born in 1834 and baptized at Maryborough with the family living at The Heath at that time. Julia had an older sister Agnes born in 1832. 

Julia and Agnes moved to the US perhaps with their father. Julia married William O'Connell in Middletown in 1855. 

I am going to see if I see any match to you on ancestry to me or my two brothers.

Interestingly enough I only researched Michael and Mary Moran family line details a few weeks ago.
I have not yet been able to establish a DNA connection between my family line and yours, but we must be related.
There is the possibility that Michael could be the brother of my great great grandfather James Tallent born 1818/1819 in Maryborough.

Julia and Agnes father Michael died in 1866 in the USA. I do not have any details for the death of Mary his wife.

Like yourself I have my DNA on Ancestry and a couple of other sites. I will also check these sites to see if I have you as a DNA match. Your surname rings a bell with me, I will check my records and see if I can find any details.

Do you have any details of Michael's parents, grand parents, brothers, sister etc? If so if you do not mind sharing them with me I would be very interested in seeing them, you never know I may have them in my records somewhere.
