Samuel Hugh Regan is the grandfather of my wife Helen Regan. We found him on the 1911 census in Dunkettle House Co Cork as a servant boy of 16 years.
Coming from Co Down in the north, we wonder how he managed to secure a position in this estate owned by the Gubbins family.
We know only that 2 others of his family, both tailors, came from Cork to Co Down sometime in the early 1900's.
Did any of the Regan tailors do work for the Gubbins family, and thus recommended Samuel to the master of the house?
This mystery is still under investigation.
