I believe Robert Weldon was born in Ireland but it could be England. In 1830 he married Mary Rogers. Their marriage is reported in the Kerry Evening Post: 06 Oct 1830-Robt. Weldon, Esq. to Mary Rogers, 2nd daughter of Robert Rogers, Esq. They resided at Cooline House outside of Charleville. Fifteen children were born to this couple, some of whom died in infancy or early childhood, including two sets of twins. Eight of their offspring lived to maturity--six sons and two daughters. The sons were Capt. Tom Weldon who was in military service in So. Africa and India, Robert Weldon jr. in lived in Co. Cork and Co. Clare, William Percival Weldon who migrated to Canada, Henry Wallace Weldon who died while studying medicine, Francis Cornwall Weldon who took over Cooline House upon the death of Robert, and George Weldon my great-grandfather who came to America. The daughters who survived were Mary Priscilla and Annie.
Robert Weldon is found in many directories for Co. Cork under Gentry & Clergy-Charleville. Oral family history says he first became an agent for an absentee landlord at Cooline House. The earliest record of Weldon's at Cooline is around 1810-1814. There is a Thomas Weldon who died at Cooline House in 1823 married to Elizabeth Banks; I believe Thomas is Robert's father. The Weldon family lived at Cooline House until 1916. The Weldon family vault is located at Knawhill Cemetery in Liscarroll, co. Cork.
Other Weldon relatives who settled in Ireland were Thomas Weldon of Riversfield, co. Limerick, John Henry Weldon of Ash Hill Towers, co. Limerick, and Rev. Thomas Pyne Weldon of Glin, co. Limerick. Rev. Robert Weldon, Rector of Ennis, co. Clare is somehow related through DNA evidence. Though I know quite a bit about my Irish family, I'm still searching for when and exactly who first arrived in Ireland.
