Stayed in Ireland
Born 1800 presumably in Cortober Townland, Co Cavan. Died in 1878 in Cortober, Co Cavan. Rented land from the Clements family, and there are records of the Simons family renting land from the Clements family at Cortober townland from the mid 1700s. Some of the children of David Simons left Ireland and settled in Canada in the mid 1800s, and the last son (my great great grandfather) left in 1878 to go to Canada. Another branch of the Simons family is confirmed by DNA studies, and represented by James Simons of Killycreeny townland who also rented land from the Clements family around the same time. The Simons in this family were wiped out when they were coming to Canada in a shipwreck off Newfoundland.
