Migrated to/Born in USA

Patrick was born in 1811 in County Roscommon.  He married Ann Ratigan on 14 Feb 1833.  No father or mother's names are given for either Patrick or Ann.  The witnesses were John Ratigan and Mary Wallace.

Patrick and Ann had a boy, Redmond, born in County Roscommon on 10 Nov 1837.

According to a biography written in History of Grundy County, Illinois 1882: He was raised on a farm in County Roscommon.  He immigrated in April 1840.

Patrick died in 1894, and Ann died in 1874.

Based on census and an agricultural census, I believe it is possible that he had a relative named Redmon who also was in Illinois.

That is as much as I have been able to find.

  • Hello - Have you seen the ESQ tree on ancestry.com?  They show 3 children for Patrick and Annie.

    1. Redmond Born: 10 Nov 1837, Strokestown, Ireland - Died 18 Nov 1920, Morris, Grundy County, Illinois

    2. Mary Ann  Born: 1839 in Ireland - Died in 1875 (in Illinois?)

    3. Daniel Ryan   Born:  May 1855, New York, NY - Died 02 Sep 1923, Bigelow, Minnesota

According to that tree, Daniel Cosgrove married Maria Cosgrove on 16 Apr 1877 and amongst their children was a son, Redmond, born in 1879 in Morris, Illinois.

Daniel Ryan Cosgrove is on Find A Grave also.

I could probably find more in the U.S., but might you have all of this already?

  • P.S.  I should add that since I didn't do the research, I don't guarantee that all of the above is spot-on, but would be worth confirming.  Susan

  • Hi Susan,

Thank you for the information.  I have not found supporting documentation for Mary Ann being the daughter of Patrick.  Also, Daniel was a boy who was placed on Patrick's farm in Illinois.  He is my grandfather but not a direct descendent of Patrick.  So, we really don't know who we descend from.  I will keep on the hunt.
