Thomas Whitmore was born in 1798 in County Wexford, Ireland, the son of Anne Smith and Samuel Whitmore (we believe). He married Elizabeth Rousman (sp?) in 1820. In 1823, they emigrated to Canada, settling first in Lanark County, Ontario, where they stayed for 26 years before moving west to Grey County, Ontario. They were the among the first settlers of the region, receiving a Crown Land grant of 50 acres. The couple had nine children in 18 years. Thomas died on June 23, 1871, in Durham, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 73, and was buried in Grey, Ontario, Canada. Elizabeth died in 1882.
