Hi Im looking to locate my great grand mother's grave. She was born in Tully on the 14th april 1876. To parents John Lee and Julia Hanly. She had one brother James and two sisters that I know of. She married Thomas Coffey on the 1st Dec 1900. She died on 20th May 1930. I have visited Darragh grave yard where her husband is burried and Glenroe. She isn't burried in either of those places. Thinking the key is the find possible other sibblings or where her parents might be buried. Thank you regards Rosaleen

  • Hi Roasaleen
According to 'God's Acre' a locally published book of burials in Darragh, Glenroe, Abbey and Kilflyn a 'C Coffey' was burried in Darragh in 1930.  It is a little ambiguous as it gives the initial only but as the year is right I think this is probably it.  If you email me, I can send you a screenshot of the record.  I have also emailed a grandchild of Thomas Coffey and Julia Lee in the hope that he may be able to confirm.
    Best wishes

  • Hello Tim,

Forgive me for tagging onto your chat with Roasaleen please.

I am looking for any information on William LEE, (my family notes say) of Darragh House, b 1819.

I believe he married twice.  I think the first might have been Ellen HAYES, issue Maurice and possibly more. I can find no information on the marriage nor anything about Maurice LEE although the family believed his son to have gone to Liverpool, UK.  The second wife was Ellen DRAKE, of Oldcastletown Co Cork, married 1852 in Kildorrery.  He died 12 May 1903 at Darragh, Kilfinnane, Co Limerick.

Handwritten family notes say he was 'reputed to be descended from the Baron Ikeron'.  Could anyone enlighten me as to what barons were?  I found a list of some of them, nothing sounding anything like IKERON, but there was a Baron IBERCHON of Kilkenny.  Could this be the one?

William's son, Daniel, was my husband's grandfather, who studied medicine 'at RUI Cork' @1880+. (Would it actually have been Dublin?)  Daniel was born 1862, married Jennie DONNELLAN in  Dublin 1900, had at least 7 children with her, and died 1935 in Northampton, UK, where he had practised medicine.  This part of the family seems now to have used the name DRAKE-LEE, presumably to differentiate from the family of William's first wife.

Would there be anything interesting for me in 'God's Acre'?

Many thanks for anything you do to find even though it may be disappointing

  • Hi Nicky
You should probably create a seperate profile for your ancestor containing the details you know.   If you contact me at the email I gave above, I will try to help.
    Best wishes

  • Searching for information on Thomas Lee of Glenroe parish, born about 1805, and Mary Rae,

born about 1810  They married in early 1830's  in the catholic church in Kildorrey, Co. Cork.

They immigrated to US in 1850/51 with daughter Johanna Lee, born about 1842., and other children.

All children were born before 1850, so church records for Glenroe  do not exist.

Johanna married William D Cassidy in 1858 in Mansfield Pennsylvania. Predominate children's

mames in the family were: Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth, Ellen, Thomas, John, William and Francis

(if that is of any help). No children were named Maurice or Patrick.

Johanna is my great grandmother, and Thomas, my great, great grandfather
