Joseph McKane was born about 1824 in Donegal, Ireland. He was the son of William and Katherine ( McCrudden) McKane. He was married in the Taughboyne Parish to Mary Doake, daughter of Archiblad Doake and Ann Allison. This family was from Cranhodoose.
Joseph and Mary settled on the banks of the River Foyle and had the following children...Annie born in 1852, Francis 1854, William in 1856, Elizabeth in 1858, Joseph in 1862, Rebecca in 1863, Mary in 1864, John in 1866, Archibald in 1868, James in 1871, Thomas in 1873, and Katherine in 1876. Their births were all in the Swilly, Castlefin, Lifford area of Donegal.
IN 1892 they arrived in Massachusetts and settled in the fall river area. Most of their children also left Ireland and settled in either the fall river part(Worcester) of Mass or the Boston area of Mass.
Joseph worked as a laborer and lived in Fall River and Rehoboth. Mary died in 1901 in Boston and he died in 1906 in Rehobeth and both are buried in East Boston.
