Robert was born in Silverstreams near Greenisland 28 Nov 1828. Son if James McBurnie and Jane (Maguire). His sister, Mary Ann was born in Carrickfergus in 1826 and a younger brother, James born in the early 1830s. They were calico printers. Robert moved to Scotland around 1840.
