My grandmother (1872?) was Catherine Drury from the same area. I wonder if they were related. My grandmother emigrated to NYC in 1886 and later married and moved to Connecticut. She died in Philadelphia PA 1954. Please be in touch if you have any more info! Thanks, Susan Mandeville
Arrived Boston, Mass. on 26 September, 1907 on the S.S. Saxonia. Accompanied by A. Drury. Lived in Phelps, NY where she worked as a maid for the McLeod family. She married George Francis Welch of Rochester, NY 24 December, 1912 in Buffalo, NY. She died in Rochester, NY in 1968.
She was the mother of four children: Alice Drury Welch (b. 1914), James Francis Welch (b. 1915), Eleanor Margaret Welch (b. 1916), and Joan Mary Welch (b. 1925). In between the births of Eleanor and Joanie she contracted blood poisoning and was semi-invalided for the rest of her life. She was a fantastic seamstress, cook, quilter, and needleworker. She had a great sense of humor and a fiery temper. She had a hard life but I never heard her complain. Her greatest wish was that she could have seen what her mother looked like. She never stopped missing Ireland.
She was described as a great beauty. I only have a photo of her when she was elderly, but given that my mother Joan was a great beauty I have no doubt. Grandma's hair was auburn. Mom's was jet black.

Hi Susan,
So nice to meet you!
I'm sure our grandmothers were related in some way! My great grandfather was Peter Drury, who I think was born in 1856. His father was Bartholomew, or Bartley, born 1821. I'm starting to think Bartley had 2 wives, Margaret Sharkey and Eleanor Brennan. Margaret was Peter's mother and I believe Eleanor had more children, and I feel like I saw a Catherine in there. Bartly died in 1871, so not sure about your grandmother's birth year and his death year matching up. Anyway, searching through the records is a bit agonizing because everybody was named Peter, James, and Catherine. Also, their names were listed in Latin in church records.
My great-grandmother was named Catherine Barrett Drury and she died from TB at age 21 when my grandmother was 6 months old. It's sad because my grandmother always thought her mother had died in childbirth, and I'm sure it would have been some comfort to her to know her mother held her for at least 6 months.
A lot of the info above are stabs in the dark. It could all be wrong except for my info on my grandmother and great-grandmother. That is confirmed.
What info do you have? Are you on Ancestry? Have you done a DNA test? 23andMe has shown me a great number of 3rd cousins from the Roscommon area, but I think I have only contacted one so far and haven't heard back.
Let me know what you know and I'll do the same!
Cheers,
Drury
