FRENCH REVOLUTIONARY WARS Enlisted with Royal Irish Artillery and served 7 years as indicated in Land Petitions of 12 Jul 1836 and 3 Apr 1837. Taken prisoner in Holland by the French 14 Sept 1794 and held for 17 months.
In the Union of 1800 he was drafted to Royal British Artillery and discharged 1801.
Served in Dartree Artillery for 32 years.
Land Petition dated 12 Jul 1836 indicates he arrived in Canada on the 18th of the previous month. Gives mailing address as Smiths Falls.
Canada Census 1851 show him with wife Ann living at Concession 8 Lot 20 in Montague, Lanark County, Ontario with their daughter Sarah Little (born 1805-1811 Monaghan or Down) and her family. John Mcalister 50 1802 Ire; Sarah Mcalister 40 1812 Ire; Eliza Mc aleter 11 1841; James Mcallister 9 1843; Mary Mcallister 7 1845; Alesander Mcallister 5 1847; Sarah Mcallister 3 1849; Georg Little 72 1780; Ann Little 70 1782. George is listed as a occupation - weaver. Both George and Ann are listed as born in Ireland, religion - Church of Scotland.
George and Ann Little had another daughter Isabella (born abt 1803 Monaghan). Isabella married Alexander Jordan and they lived at Concession 8 Lot 1 in North Elmsley, Lanark County, Ontario which was located directly across the road from sister and parents.
Canada Census 1861 shows him as a widower living at Concession 9 Lot 20 in Montague, Lanark County with daughter Sarah McAllister and her family.
Canada Census 1871 doesn't show him living with daughter Sarah and her family and I presume he died between 1861 and 1871.
There was a George Little that was "Commissioner for taking affidavits" Dec 1818 in Monaghan. http://www.thesilverbowl.com/documents/1818Dec17-BARTLEY-BARTLEY.html#_…; There was a George Little that owned the Kings Arms in Monaghan in 1826. http://www.claires-rosleaancestry.co.uk/Quigley.htm. It is possible that either or both of these George Littles could be the George Little I am researching.
