Adam was a Private with the 8th/9th Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles; Service No 9/15431.
He was the son of Thomas John McKelvey of Ballyscullion and Elizabeth Brown of Ballynealbeg. He was born at Mullaghboy, Bellaghy, County Londonderry, Ireland on 24 July 1888. His mother died when he was four and his father when he was sixteen, Adam and his younger sister, Annie were taken in by Archie and Catherine Leslie of "Woodview", Leitrim.
He died on 15 December 1917 at Rouen, France. His bedroom at the farmhouse is forever remembered as "Adam's Room". Adam was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
