Rowley Croker Miller, the fourth son of Croker Miller and Matilda Kinchela was born at Buncrana, Donegal, Ireland on the 11th February, 1843.
He was baptised on the 9th April 1843 at the parish church of Lower Fahan, Buncrana, Donegal, Ireland.
His early life was lived in Buncrana, Donegal and Derry, Londonderry, Ireland. Following the death of his father in 1857, the family moved to Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. On March 2, 1863, he sailed from London aboard the ship “Istanboul”, bound for Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, arriving on the 8th June, 1863 as a gold seeker.
He married Ann Eliza Hamling on February 7, 1878 at Inglewood, Victoria, Australia.
In March 1879 he acquired a block of land of 130 acres, thirty miles north of Bendigo in Central Victoria, in the newly surveyed district to be administered from Serpentine by the Shire of East Loddon, where he took up farming. The life of the early settler was hard work. The timber for farm buildings and fencing had to be cut from the virgin bush. Rowley Croker Miller built his own house by moulding mud bricks for his home. The house was named “Gransha” which is today, a suburb of Londonderry, Ireland, where the family had once resided.
Rowley Croker Miller lived on his farm until his death at the age of 77 years on the 7th November 1920.
