He was with the 64th Regiment of Foot and literally lost one leg with the foot. It is likely he was sent to the American War of Independence. I wonder if the hospitals did father/son deals!
The original 64th Regiment of Foot was formed in 1758, and arrived in Boston in 1768. The 64th never lost a battle, never lost its Colours, and likely saw more action than any other British regiment, from Boston to New York to Brandywine and Germantown (Philadelphia) to Charleston, SC, and more.
