Mary Kelly (1814-1895) was born in Antrim in August 1814. Her parents were John Kelly (c.1760-1828), who operated a public house in the high street of Antrim, and Eleanor Patterson (c.1776-1838). Two brothers, William Kelly (1811-1877 and John Kelly (c.1821-1866) were master mariners; William kelly was a prominent captain during the age of sail, who owned and sailed clipper ships in the trade to India and Australia, and took settlers and supplies to New Orleans. Mary Kelly married:
1. Robert Kelly (c.1811-1836) of Carnmoney on February 14 1832 in Antrim Town. Their children: Fannie Kelly (1834-1864) and Robert Kelly (1836-1867).
2. John McFerran (1804-1864) of Antrim on June 29, 1841. Mary and John McFerran emigrated, first to Edwards, St. Lawrence County in upstate New York and then to Oxford Township, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario, Canada where they farmed and raised afamily of 6 daughters and 3 sons.
Mary Kelly was confined to a wheelchair in her later years, and died on February 1, 1895. She was buried, with her husband John, in the South Gower Cemetery, Leeds & Grenville County, Ontario, Canada.
