"P Cahill of Cloonard" and family were recorded in the Elphin Census of 1749. He was a Catholic labourer with 5 children (2 under the age of 14).
His squire was James Walker Esq. who has 3 teenage children. And his other neighbors were Carroll, Finan, Bowe, and Greevy, all Catholic laborers.
"W Cahill of Aghalour" who lived in the next townland was also a laborer with one young child in 1749. likely newlywed
The Cahill family endured in the townland of Clonard (near Loughlinn) and the following are very likely to be his descendants.
In 1825 John Cahill appears on Tithe records at Clonard. Here, he held 7 acres of his own, and was named "John Cahill & Partners" on a shared holding of 30 Irish acres. This usually suggests a rundale village of relatives sharing land.
The following Cahills of Cloonard were baptizing children in the Catholic parish register for Loughlynn when records began in 1817. These couples would have wed in the 1790s before records began:
- John Cahill & Anne Gallagher (siblings Michael, Matthew, Mary, Catherine & Elizabeth Cahill invited to godparent)
- Matthew Cahel & Margaret McDermott (siblings Honor, Patrick & Mary Cahill invited to godparent)
- Richard Cahill & Elizabeth Moffit / Mophet / Moylet / Mylot (moved to Cartron | siblings Michael, Martin, Patrick & Mary Cahill invited to godparent)
- Patrick Cahil & Brigid Gill (sibling James, Charles & Honor Cahil invited to godparent)
- Michael Cahil & Margaret Farrel
In 1857 Pat Cahill and Con Cahill of Cloonard are recorded at farms 13 and 14 respectively.
- Con Cahill (1809-1884) of Cloonard appears on record as Constantine Cahill and Cornelius Cahill
- Patrick Cahill (1814-1890) & Catherine Flanagan of Cloonard invite Constantine Cahill to godparent in 1850.
- William John Cahill (1813-1890) of Cloonard, farmer, died a bachelor.
By the time of the 1901 Census, the only Cahill family remaining in Cloonard was that of Pat & Catherine Cahill. Catherine Flanagan Cahill (1825-?) survived her husband and was recorded at Cloonard, with their children Thomas, Owen, and Mary Cahill.
Thomas and Mary never married and were recorded at the Cahill family home in the Census of 1911.
