John was born in 1817 in Londonderry(?) Ireland and died in 1874 in Sussex, New Brunswick.  He immigrated to Canada in 1819 with his parents, Joseph and Ellen (Eleanor) Marshall. they lived in Sussex, New Brunswick.  John married Catherine Norrie, born about 1820 in Ireland, on 14 April 1840 in Sussex. She came with her sister Bertha to Canada in 1836. John and Catherine had four children: Joseph, Eliza,  Margaret and Ellen.
