This was where my ggfather was born in 1865. Apparently it remained in the family for many years. James immigrated to Queensland, Australia, aged 19 and joined his uncle in the police force in North Queensland. I have written about what I know of his life. I remember him well. I was fortunate to be given some early photos sent from Ireland to the family out here. Moate Hose is now a B&B and is actually in Naas, not Blessington.

I believe the Sargent family lived here in the 1700's. Would anyone have any information about that time.

Sally,
Your ggf, James Sargent born 11th March 1865 at Rathmore is on my genealogy records. James and I are 1st cousins 3 times removed. James father is Joseph Sargent b.1832, son of William Sargent and Martha Bingham.
I am descended from James Sargent b.1818, son of William Sargent and Martha Bingham, Joseph's brother.

It seems like the family kept it for a long time from 1970s. Both the image's age and quality are evident. The photo's color indicates that, at this geometry dash lite point, only under ideal circumstances can images be preserved for as long as possible. According to what I could gather from the comments, James moved to Queensland, Australia, when he was 19 years old, and he joined his uncle in the North Queensland police department.

Welcoming thousands of visitors each year, the Round Tower, churches and graveyard nestled here are crowned by an awesome natural backdrop of soaring mountains and glossy lakes.

I have written the story of James Sargent's move to Qld where he did join the police force so wold make it available to anyone who is interested. I am the eldest descendant of James and his wife Maud.
i haven't been able to find who is the father of William Sargent born 1735 but I think it is John Sargent born 1702. My brother is John Sargent.
I would like more time to research as there are so many stories in all parts of my heritage, I am writing what I know (or hope is true) in stories for our 9 gchildren, if they are interested. Our heritage is Irish, English and Scottish and my husband gives them Danish, Cornish and Irish so they are a good mix! Even a couple of Irish convicts tossed in!

Hi George 27
Isn't great to go back and find ancestors? Nice to hear from a fellow descendant?
Gail Bennetto (nee Sargent) By the way, the Bennetto is from Cornwall, not Italy

Hi fellow Sargent descendants,
Sally, I also have John Sargent baptised 6 September 1702 St Marys Church, Blessington as the father of William Sargent b.1735. It is a toss-up between Robert baptised 11 April 1697 and John, and I also opted for John.
It appears that both Sally and Gail are descended from a Sargent who emigrated to Australia.
I am descended from a James Sargent b.1818, son of William Sargent and Martha Bingham. James emigrated to NZ in 1863 and his five children followed him. So, we are the Kiwi contingent!
Gail, I'm still looking for a copy of 'The Sargent Tribe' by William Gyves 1977. I do appreciate the pages you photocopied for me, but it would be great to find a copy of the complete book.
