Patrick McCollum was born in Culnagew, Maghera, Co Derry His father as Thomas McCollum and his mother either Cath or Mary Ann McShane. He went on to become a teacher and taught in Rasharkin and St Malachys in Belfast. I can't find any records of him until he marries Mary Tracy in St Patrick's Church, Belfast. He then moves to Portaferry, Co Down and teaches in St Patrick's, Ballyphilip, Portaferry. He had 10 children some of whose died with TB. At the age of 52 he drowned making his way home on a very bad night. I would love to find out more about his life in Culnagrew and about his teaching. I also can't find any records of his wife Mary Tracy. His name on his marriage certificate is McCollum but he must have changed it to McCallum which is my name.
