Peter Coyne;of Cloon townland, Ballynakill Parish (Cleggen DED),1838-1905.Noted in the 1901 Ireland Census with wife and two g-children.A survivor of the Great Famine when the population of west Galway was decimated by emigration,starvation and disease.He has descendents in Ireland,England,Australia,USA.The census notes that he and his wife are illiterate but are bi-lingual in irish and english.What can be noted is that among his grand-children are a professor of mathematics,a medical researcher and executive,several religious,teachers,lawyers,numerous academics from various disciplines as well as nurses, farmers,tradesmen and many other occupations including a well respected artist in the USA.The metamorphosis of a family from peasantry during a century of change.
