I believe John's father was William Finnigan a Corn Dealer. John is shown variously as being born in Luggall, Portadown and Loughgall.
John joined 7th Battalion Royal Artillery in Belfast on 6 July 1836. He served in several overseas locations including China. He was discharged from the Royal Invalid Artillery in Brighton, England on 24 November 1856.
He married Elizabeth White (from Walworth, Surrey, England) before the 1851 Census. They had three sons - William, George & John - that lived into adulthood. I am descended from George Finnigan. Their son John immigrated to Australia in about 1882.
John died in Hove, England in 1895.
