Would appreciate suggestions on where to search (I am in New Zealand) for info/records of Patrick Melavin born circa 1810 in unknown town in Kings County/Offally. His father's name was James (Not verified). Patrick. married Eliza Chapman in Ireland (I have no record proof of this) Eliza born 28 Feb1808-1850. She Died in NZ. I think she was baptised in Magheralin. I think her parents were John Chapman and Eliza (?). Not verified.
Children were James Melavin dob 1830-? (no info on his death) and John 1833-1890 (died in NZ). Both boys born in Ireland. Daughter Mary Anne born 1838 (?Australia)- died 1913 in NZ. Michael 1842-1887 (died in Australia). Unknown where born.

It is possible that the surname was Melvin in Ireland. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and could find no records for your family in Co. Offaly. I also checked for a marriage record in Co. Down with no success. What was the religious denomination of the family? If they were Church of Ireland records may not be available for their parish or they are held locally or at the Representative Church Body LIbrary in Dublin.
