John Hopley, born about 1784 or 1785 in county Cork. Married in 1809 in Diocese of Cork and Ross, county Cork, Ireland to Ellenor Lumsden. Moved sometime after 1811 to Manchester, England where he died in January 1849 and buried on the 9th of January, 1849 in Manchester. Their son, William was born in 1811 and married Margaret. He joined the North Devonshire 1/11 Regiment of soldiers of foot. William became a Colour Sargent and went to Australia with the Regiment where he, Margaret and the children, settled after retirement in Sydney, NSW.
